Our Signature Cold Brew

We have been busy experimenting with the many possibilities for creating amazing cold brew coffee. If you have ever tried it at home, you will have noticed the cold brewing process brings out entirely different flavors from each variety of coffee bean then traditional hot coffee methods. Much like a coffee press can be different from a pour over system or  your traditional counter top coffee machine, cold brewing brings an entirely new spectrum to the flavors you may be used to tasting.

In addition to the type of beans and roast used, each batch of cold brew can be effected by the grind of the bean, the duration of the brew, and the temperature of the water throughout the steeping time. For the highest quality consistent results, each batch we make uses multi-stage filtration for the source water and after steeping the grinds, pressurized multiple-pass filtration thru 1 micron filters.

Our search for a signature house cold brew has taken us through 100’s of small test batches. We have been in search of a strong yet smooth coffee, something that can be had black or with a splash of cream, served traditionally or ‘on nitro.’ A daily drinker, whether you prefer your coffee first thing in the morning or as a pick-me-up in the afternoon. The amazing thing about the cold brewing process is the lack of acidity in the finished product. It allows you to notice everything else about the taste of the coffee you are drinking.

There are many varietals of beans that have notes of this, or hints of that, and we have found several beans that will make great additions as we expand our portfolio of cold brews. In the future we will be adding different varieties, for varying palettes or situations. We didn’t want all that though for our main brew. Our signature cold coffee reflects what you know and love when you think coffee. Its the taste your mouth wants when you smell the delicious aromas of coffee shop. Strong without being overbearing and great depth of flavor. We use a custom blend of medium and dark roasts with specific bean varieties for a balanced flavor profile.

Some people expect that any coffee with a dark roast will be to ‘strong’ for what they like. Strong coffee with traditional hot brewing is associated with high acidity, a factor that goes away when cold brewing. In our mix, the blending of a dark roast provides just the right level intensity to the flavor.
